A South Sacramento McMansion: Seeing 2 Houses

I took a photo of a “McMansion” today in South Sacramento. This house is currently for sale and is a whopping 3,293 square feet in the middle of a neighborhood of mostly single-story 1100-1400 square foot homes (with 3 or 4 bedrooms). It looks like this one may have actually been 1607 square feet originally, so it was already on the upper end of gross living area for the neighborhood, but now it has grown to over twice its original size. This house weighs in now as a 6 bedroom / 3 bathroom property (with a 3-car garage). What do you think?

Watch Out for the Leaning Telephone Pole!!!

I sighted something interesting the other day in a neighborhood in Rancho Cordova (next door to my house). There was a telephone pole leaning toward a single story house within fall distance. The photo almost looks “photoshopped”, but it’s not. Even if you failed geometry, it’s quite obvious that this pole is not at 90 degrees. 

If I was appraising this property, this would be something I would need to mention as a potential safety hazard, don’t you think? After all, most people think a “Flat Teresa” is not a great idea in real life. Lenders would want to know about something like this too (and they always ask about high power tension lines).

Tree Nets in Marysville: Photos from the Field

While inspecting a property in Yuba City today, I found myself driving past Washington Square in Marysville where Highway 20 and 70 meet. I’ve appraised several houses in Yuba and Sutter County recently, but since I’ve not used this intersection for a while, I found myself wondering why enormous nets were blanketing these trees. Snapping a few shots was definitely fitting.

A friend on Twitter tipped me off that this area was scheduled for a construction project and the nets were an aim to curb nesting. An Appeal-Democrat article entitled “Tree Nets Spoiling Marysville” gives more detail.
